Determined to maintain a clean architectural finish while enjoying the natural light and ventilation those glazed doors offered, the homeowner approached Phantom Screens during the early planning stages. Their brief was clear: create a seamless, hidden solution that would control heat, eliminate bugs, and enhance the indoor-outdoor experience – all without compromising on the aesthetics of their contemporary home.

finding The solution
Bespoke, Recessed Sliding Door Insect Screens
Working in close collaboration with the project’s architectural team and builders, our technical designers developed a fully recessed solution using three large power screens, each spanning 4.5m in width and 2.7m in height.
To preserve the property’s clean lines, we created concealed head boxes beneath the stone lintels, ensuring the screens disappear completely from view when retracted. Each bespoke door fly screen was engineered to roll forward over the front of the barrel to clear the steel reveals, allowing for smooth operation and perfect alignment with the glazed openings.
Installation
Striking the Balance with External Shading
We specified Suntex 80 premium solar mesh in black for the two outer screens, which provides both insect protection and up to 80% solar shading – ideal for reducing heat build-up in sun-drenched spaces. For the central screen, a 10% privacy mesh was used to reduce glare and allow comfortable television viewing without reflections.
All fly screens for sliding doors were finished in Slate Grey to match the aluminium door frames, offering a sleek, integrated finish. The system is operated via remote control, enabling each screen to work independently or as a group, depending on the homeowners’ preference and the time of day.
