How to prevent overheating with electric solar screens
The property had an open plan first floor with lots of windows, flooding the kitchen/diner/living space with natural light. However, soon after moving in, the homeowner became frustrated with the stuffy heat build that came with having lots of glazing.
To cool down, they would open their windows and sliding door, only to regret it once hordes of waterborne insects from the nearby river would make themselves at home.
The homeowner got in touch requiring a solution to the heat build that would:
- Reduce solar gains and humidity in the home
- Keep the light coming in
- Blend in with the property’s modern aesthetic
- Allow air flow without letting in flies, mosquitoes etc.

The Phantom Screens team responded promptly, assuring the customer that they had a product that would work for them. They requested more details including images and rough measurements of the doors and windows to understand the requirements and provide a ballpark quote.
Once the customer understood their options, a home survey was arranged to put names to faces, take precise measurements, and discuss fabric and colour options in person.
The automated power screen was tailor-made with our standard solar screen mesh, perfect for minimising heat build whilst maintaining the view outside. The framework, headbox, and drop bar were powder coated to perfectly match the colour of the existing door frames. The screen was then retrofitted externally for maximum effectivity – blocking solar gains before they hit the glass.
