Retractable fly screen for bifold doors
This beautiful lakeside lodge features a modern interior with breathtaking views of the water. The homeowners had long dreamed of enjoying a glass of wine on their deck while watching the sunset, but soon realised the moist climate attracted an overwhelming number of insects, including mosquitoes, flies, and spiders.
With the large bifold doors leading to the lakeside deck, the homeowners could no longer keep the doors open without letting bugs inside. The only other access to the waterfront deck was through the bedrooms, which wasn’t ideal, especially when hosting guests.
Desperate for a solution, they found Phantom Screens online and contacted us. They shared photos and rough measurements of the doors needing screening, allowing us to fully understand their needs.
A free home survey was scheduled, during which our team provided expert advice and accurate measurements. The homeowners were eager to have insect-free fresh air, so we proceeded with the next steps.
Installation
A practical bug solution
For the main bifold doors, we installed the pleated screen internally. The chosen colour for this large double door insect screen was standard white, seamlessly blending with the existing door frames.
Additionally, two single standard door screens were installed on the back doors of the bedrooms, ensuring they didn’t disrupt the overall design of the lodge. These were externally fitted and colour-matched to the Anthracite Grey door frames.
The screens featured our standard insect protection mesh, offering durable and discreet protection. We also have options for solar protection and blackout/privacy screens, which the homeowners could explore to enhance comfort further.
The pleated screens are manually operated (hand-pulled) and, with their pleated mesh, offer an elegant solution inspired by ancient Japanese compactness. They provide exceptional protection against insects while keeping the views unobstructed.
