Simply put, power screens are large mesh blinds that help control sun glare and heat build. They also stop insects from entering the property and provide privacy too. They are powered because they are usually large, so it’s easier to deploy and retract them by motor rather than by hand.
In recent years, we’ve seen an explosion in the adoption of glass in architectural design – predominantly for large sliding and bifold doors. More glass of course means more light, and more light means more exposure to the sun, more bugs, more risk of sun-bleaching, and a greater need for heat management. We created our power screens to deal with all of these challenges without blocking your view.
Yes. All our screens are bespoke and handmade to order so we conduct surveys in order to prepare an accurate quote for you. The best way to ensure this process is as seamless and quick as possible is for a Phantom expert to visit your property and take measurements.
The survey is completely free of charge, carries no obligation to buy, and doesn’t need to take longer than an hour. It is also your opportunity to ask questions, look at mesh options and find the best installation options available to you.
Yes! Our hi-tech mesh fabrics provide a variety of solutions depending on need; from insect control at around 50% openness, to privacy control at around 5% open and solar management blocking up to 97% of the sun’s UV rays. Unlike extra wide curtains or smart glass, hi-performance mesh fabric doesn’t block the view and provides ventilation which can help manage heat build-up during summer months.
Different colours achieve different effects too. Dark mesh allows you to see through and focus on the landscape beyond; this is because dark mesh reflects less light and glare. Light colour mesh reflects light back towards you making it harder to see what’s on the other side of the screen; consequently, light mesh works well as an internal blind/screen solution.
The mesh itself is made from a polyester or fibreglass weave with a PVC coating for added durability, making them suitable for outdoor use.
Of course you can! Our screens will link to most home automation systems and can be ordered with weather and light sensors.
We use Somfy’s Tahoma® app to give you complete and intuitive control – over the internet or via your computer, smartphone or tablet.
Not wanting to boast, but we’re the only UK company to make power screens that cover openings up to 12m wide in a single span (and up to 4.8m high). We can do this because we’ve spent years developing the right technology and production systems to meet customer needs. Incidentally, if you want a powered screen for a small opening, we can do that too!
Our screens are always fitted by Phantom-trained experts, so you don’t have to worry about learning the technicalities of the installation. The price of your power screens always includes the cost of installation. The best type of installation for a Phantom Power Screen is fully recessed at the point of building, but they can be fitted outside or inside as a retrofit.
A recessed fitting is the most discreet installation meaning the screens will disappear completely when not in use. There are other semi-recessed installation options – the best thing to do is talk to our technical experts who can guide and advise you directly, or work with your architect or builder to find the best solution for your property.
Absolutely! Our aluminium screen drop bars can be finished in any RAL colour or wood grained to match your home and window/door frames. We’ll also work with you on any custom finishes or bespoke colours to make sure your power screens are carefully integrated with your chosen décor.
Call us to get a more accurate answer to this question. It largely depends on the time of year, the type of property and the type of screens you’re ordering. A simple 3m solar screen ordered and installed in January can sometimes be completed in a week, but more complex screens in our peak summer season can take a little longer.
- All Phantom fly screens for doors come with a Phantom Limited Lifetime Warranty to make sure that you are completely satisfied with our products. The warranty is activated when you register your product using the form given to you by your fitter.
- The warranty covers the screens (fitted by Phantom-trained local design and fitting experts, for the original owner). It cannot be transferred to new homeowners and the screens will not be covered if they are moved to a new address.
- The warranty covers the paint finish and mechanical parts of the screen but not the mesh itself. The mesh of your Phantom Screen is a serviceable part and will eventually need to be replaced. This can be organised with your local design and fitting expert.
- Call out, labour and fitting of warrantied parts is not covered by this warranty.
- The warranty also covers the motors for 5 years and this is backed up by the manufacturer. Please note, the warranty cannot be transferred to new homeowners and the screens will not be covered if they are moved to a new address.
Yes, if actively using solar mesh. The solar management feature of performance mesh contributes to energy saving by reducing the requirement for HVAC cooling systems in the summer. Building standards dictate that architects and engineers calculate the heating, cooling and lighting performance of a building during the design phase. When included in these calculations, screen fabric can contribute significantly to the building’s overall performance rating.
Power screens are easy to look after. To clean the cassette/housing simply wipe down using a non-abrasive, household detergent and a soft cloth or sponge. To clean the mesh, use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove debris and then wipe down with a soft, damp cloth.
