Give Your Home a Summer Makeover

Summer Home Makeover

Summer is the perfect time for a home makeover! The weather is warm and sunny, so you can spend more time outdoors enjoying your newly renovated space. With a little planning, you can easily transform your home without breaking the bank.

In this blog post, we will discuss some of the best home summer makeover ideas. Whether you’re looking for a small change or a major overhaul, we have something for you. So, without further ado, here are our top tips for a summer home makeover…

Declutter

Start small. Remove what’s cluttering up your home and watch your home be transformed. Anything taking up vital space can look a mess, but once cleared up, you’ll be able to breathe and think clearly again. Now, that’s easier said than done. Perhaps try to categorise the clutter by where it’s going – the bin, eBay or Vinted, charity, the garage or loft, or your local self-storage facility.

Establish a theme

There are no rules for decorating your home… but here’s some general guidance: pick a theme. Without establishing a theme, there can be a lack of consistency, leaving the home looking obscure and random. When choosing a theme, consider your personal style, lifestyle, and the purpose of the space. Consider what ties it all together – use the same colour palette across the home so that rooms don’t clash. Why not centre your home around its distinct characteristics with themed décor such as you might find in a converted farmhouse or seaside cottage?

Experiment with colours

Maybe it’s time to give your home a new lease of life. Research the latest colour trends or go bold and inject more of your personality into the room (it is your home makeover after all!).

Garden tidy up

Thought you were done with the decluttering?! Tidying up is always the first place to start when setting out a summer makeover. Plus, you want to be out in the garden whilst the sun is shining! Could you move some pots around? Try adding some new plants that make your garden ‘pop’ or perhaps you have a section of your garden that needs reevaluating.

Take a look at that unused outdoor space (you know the one!), have you considered transforming it with a pergola? By installing a pergola, you have a flexible outdoor space that can be used for outdoor dining, lounging or even a relaxing office space.

Bring nature in

Tired of the same four walls? Bring in some new house plants or swap out old pots for some colourful new ones. There is evidence to suggest that house plants can improve your mental health. Studies have shown that being around plants can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. They can also improve mood, cognitive function, and overall well-being.

Nothing says summer like opening up your windows and back doors to enjoy the fresh air. Why not bask in that luxury without the glaring solar problem and insect invasion? Let’s discuss how fly screens can update your home for the better…

What are fly screens?

Fly screens stop insects (such as flies and mosquitoes) and spiders from entering your home. They are a fabric (mesh) attached to a frame which fits onto a door or window. When opening a door or window, a fly screen can be deployed to allow insect-free fresh air in to ventilate your home. This removes stale air and leaves your home feeling fresh.

Though more commonly used in America or around the Mediterranean, fly screens are becoming increasingly desired in the UK. This is mostly due to rising average temperatures making it uncomfortably hot in the summers. With our houses either being highly insulated or covered in glass to maximise on natural light, the excessive heat build from solar gains can be too much to bear.

Unlike simpler stick-on alternatives, fly screens are built to last and withstand changeable weather. Some high-quality fly screens can even be integrated into your home and connected to your home automation systems – see Phantom Screens’ world-famous Power Screens.
