As natural light poured in and temperatures climbed, the wide opening began to act like a magnet for insects. Leaving the doors open for ventilation brought in fresh air – but also moths, flies and other pests. The space they had designed to be open and breezy quickly became uncomfortable.

finding The solution
A 10m fly screen with seamless integration
The homeowner reached out to Phantom Screens to find a solution that wouldn’t detract from the extension’s clean architectural lines. After an initial consultation, we scheduled a free survey to assess the space, take precise measurements, and explore control options.
We then handcrafted a bespoke insect screen for large sliding doors at our UK facility. At a full 10 metres in width, this is one of the largest sliding door screens we’ve ever produced – built to span the entire opening in a single, elegant sweep.
The automated insect screen was externally mounted using three cradle brackets and integrated neatly within a purpose-built solar ledge. When not in use, it retracts fully and disappears from view.
Installation
Form, function, and smart control
To maintain a sleek finish, the drop bar was colour matched to the existing door framework, blending into the architecture. The screen features our durable 18:14 insect mesh, which provides total bug protection without obstructing airflow or outdoor views.
For effortless usability, the screen was supplied with a remote control and programmed with a personalised stopping point. It was also integrated into the client’s home automation system – making this 10m sliding door screen a truly intelligent, high-performance addition.
